2021 Safeguarding LGBT+ Christians Survey
Please complete this important ‘Safeguarding’ survey launched today, 10 October 2021. It takes about five minutes to fill out. Here’s the link:
The survey is being launched on World Mental Health Day, which also coincides with the Church of England’s first ‘Safeguarding Sunday’. It is not, however, confined to the Church of England.
The ‘2021 Safeguarding LGBT+ Christians Survey’ is being run by a coalition of nine Christian LGBT+ organisations, including Equal, and overseen by an independent researcher. It aims to gather LGBT+ Christian experiences and perspectives on how safe they/we feel within the churches where they/we currently worship. We hope it will provide some answers to these questions:
- Are concerns about safety a reason why LGBT+ Christians don’t attend church?
- What can churches do to address this?
The survey is open to all LGBT+ Christians over the age of 18 in the UK who either attend church (of any denomination), would like to attend or who choose not to attend.
It is hoped to make public the general results of the survey in time for General Synod in mid-November.
Jayne Ozanne, who instigated the project, has issued this press release.
