After amicable and fruitful discussions between the Equal Campaign and MoSAIC, the two organizations have agreed to support each other in a working partnership and issued the following joint statement on 7 July 2021:
Joint Statement from Equal and MoSAIC
The Campaign for Equal Marriage in the Church of England and MoSAIC (Movement of Supporting Anglicans for an Inclusive Church) are delighted to announce a new working partnership.
Equal and MoSAIC are both organisations dedicated to the flourishing of the Church of England by working for a church that is truly inclusive and accepting of all people. MoSAIC works with a wide range of inclusive and campaigning organisations in the Church of England and shares with Equal the belief that God is calling the Church of England to acknowledge and celebrate the marriages of LGBTQIA+ people in its churches and in the ministry of ordained married clergy. Both recognise that there is legitimate diversity of opinion on this matter in the Church, and together we long for the day when that is also understood and officially recognised by the Church of England itself.
This new partnership will strengthen the movement for wider inclusion within the Church of England as it brings together progressive and inclusive organisations working on a wide range of issues into a single space where we can encourage and support each other in the task that lies ahead.
Nigel Pietroni, Chair of Equal, welcomed the new partnership, adding “As Christians we believe we are part of a community linked together by baptism and a shared faith in the one God who loves us all. This partnership will strengthen the work we are doing to bring marriage equality to the Church of England and also enable us to work with and encourage the work of other organisations who share that belief and are striving for the outworking of the Gospel message in the life of the Church in a wide range of areas.”
The Revd Trevor Wyatt and the Revd Canon Tim Goode, co-chairs of MoSAIC, welcomed Equal as a partner organisation of MoSAIC, stating that “we are delighted Equal and MoSAIC have agreed to work together in partnership and to support each other.”
