Modern Church Conference:
Living in Faith, Hope, and Love

Modern Church logoModern Church has announced details of its 2022 Conference, which looks extremely worthwhile! The conference is open to all – not just Modern Church members.

The theme, Living in Faith, Hope, and Love, partially mirrors the title of the ‘Living in Love and Faith’ (LLF) project of the Church of England. The conference will provide constructive theological approaches to the chosen themes of LLF (‘identity, sexuality, relationships, marriage’), and make good some of its omissions (e.g., gender, history, ‘abusive theology’).

Full details of the conference are at https://modernchurch.org.uk/events/2022-conference-living-in-love-faith-and-hope. There is a 10% discount for early booking. The conference is residential but there will be some online elements (to be confirmed).

Dates: 18–20 July 2022 (Monday to Wednesday)

Venue: High Leigh Conference Centre, Lord Street, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, EN11 8SG

Cost: £250

Presentations:

Speaker Topic
The Revd Dr Christina (Tina) Beardsley Far from the madding crowd: a theological critique of current intellectual objections to trans people
Professor Susannah Cornwall Transformative creatures: living into freedom as sexed, gendered and sexual persons
Professor Helen King Being flesh: bodies, history and LLF
The Revd Jarel Robinson-Brown The Church and the famine of grace
Dr Rachel Starr What good is marriage? Reimagining covenantal and sacramental models for today

The Equal Campaign highly recommends this conference – please book for it if you possibly can. If cost is an issue, contact Modern Church to see if they can help.

Whether you regard it as a supplement, an alternative or a correction to LLF, this is a very valuable contribution to the Church of England’s current explorations of sexuality, gender identity, relationships and marriage.
